THE CHALLENGE

An existing customer since 2006, Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust approached Sitekit in March 2014 to consult on a new website. Their old website was one of the first to be built in Sitekit CMS and its design had become dated. The Trust only had six weeks to create the new website – from initial concept to delivery.

THE CLIENT

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust provides secondary care and specialist services to 675,000 people living across South East Hampshire, and tertiary services to a wider catchment of over two million people.  Over half a million patients are treated by the Trust each year, making it one of the largest acute hospital Trusts in the UK.

As the second largest employer in Portsmouth, the Trust provides training and education to a wide range of health professionals. It is also actively engaged in the national agenda regarding research and development and has a reputation for being innovative.

“I felt involved at each stage and in control of decisions. The final product was professional and met the Project brief– in fact it exceeded expectations on many levels”

THE SOLUTION

Keeping in mind the short timeframe, the team at Sitekit joined up with the project steering group at the Trust to work out a project plan that would quickly deliver great results. Communication lines were deliberately kept short to ensure each stage of the project ran smoothly. While Sitekit worked on design and development, the Trust was working on creating content, so pages could be filled with content as soon as they were released.

The Trust opted for a modern website design that was centred around the site visitor and their user journey. Recognising the fact that many people use their mobile phones and tablets to access the Internet, the website was designed to be fully responsive. Patients and their families could find all the information they needed within one click from the homepage, no matter which device they used to visit the website.

THE BENEFITS

One week ahead of schedule, Sitekit delivered a new website that exceeded the expectations of the Client. Although the new website contains a lot of content, it’s designed in a way that makes it easy for people to find what they’re looking for. Best of all, the website is fully responsive, making it easy to navigate on mobile phones and tablets. Plus, in line with NHS requirements, the website adheres to accessibility guidelines, with AA compliance.

“The final product was professional and met the Project brief – in fact it exceeded expectations on many levels. The timescales we provided Sitekit with could have been considered to be unreasonable by many other suppliers but Sitekit successfully rose to the challenge – adding additional resources to the project when required to ensure we met our deadline. Sitekit are a professional and friendly company, easy to work with, responsive and flexible and always understand our needs.”
